Do the bullets still hit? If not, this could just be an animation problem.

The bullets don't hit the enemy in front of you, but fly back and can hit an
enemy behind you.

Yes this happens when you are directly next to an enemy and attack it with a gun.

You don't know how this is annoying sometimes. You need to retreat because
you're not hitting the enemy in front of you (while the enemy is hitting you!)
and are wasting precious ammo.
